Cella. 26. I write songs, read books, and own many instruments which I play on a mediocre level. I also have a day job that I am pretty badass at. I am full of jackassery and belligerence and tell it like it is, no matter who is asking.

Do you think it's cause we're awesome? I think it's cause we're awesome.

Badass Bands Blog: Badass Band 29

badassbandsblog:

In the spirit of killer female fronted bands, I have another one for you this week, one of my all time favorites! It’s especially fitting to post this during this week seeing as though The HUSH is LA based, so we need to have a NYC based female fronted band to balance it out. The band I…

Who is up for a sweet interview from Yet Cut Breath leading lady Anna Morsett? Check it out!
Any exciting news you’d like to share?
We’re making another record this month! We’re launching our Kickstarter campaign very soon, hopefully on March 19th to help raise money for it. People who help us by donating will receive copies of the new record, t-shirts and more fun things. We’re very excited and can’t wait to finally record these songs! We had a blast making the video for it too … I think it’s hilarious.
Do you have any upcoming shows?
We just did a string of shows actually, in Boston and NYC, but we’re on a bit of a hiatus because of recording. Our next show is up at Sarah Lawrence College in NY on April 6th, but that one is just for SLC students.
What is the best way for fans to check out your music?
Definitely our website: www.yetcutbreath.com
Our facebook too, a few fun things there: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yet-Cut-Breath/149852248386217
What was the inspiration for the name of your band?
Strangely enough, it’s a quote from The Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare. In the play several characters are discussing how life-like a statue is and one character says to the other, “What fine chisel could yet cut breath?”. That really stuck with me, the idea that an artist could create something that, though it may not be breathing yet, COULD breathe, could seemingly have a life of it’s own. I liked the idea of creating music in the same vein, of making music that would take on a life of it’s own in the experience of listening to it. Something that would connect to you as a living thing.
What is the first instrument you learned how to play?
The piano! I took lessons for four years when I was really young … too young to really take advantage of it in the ways I should have. I still regret quitting, actually. I started playing guitar when I was about 12 and was a huge choir nerd in middle school and high school.
Tell us the best joke you ever heard.
Haa, if you’ve ever seen us live you’d know that I have NO good jokes … But Jake has a pretty good one, ahem, “What do clouds wear beneath their clothes?”
Answer? “Thunderpants!” Yup, that’s about the peak of our comedic abilities. Ha!
Name one song that should never be covered.
Errr, that’s tough. Bohemian Rhapsody? Unless you’re the Muppets, then by all means.
What was your childhood nickname?
My dad calls me “bub” and has since I was really young. I think that it’s probably my favorite nickname of all time really.
What is your favorite song of all time?
Ugh, that’s the most difficult question. I can’t have an answer for that, that’s like asking which letter of the alphabet I like best. Which, for the record, is “ j ”.
What is the best city for people watching?
Any city really, even those strange towns you pass through in the south. I suppose any city foreign to you so that you really DO watch people and look at them differently. I was recently people watching in Tokyo and that brought it to a whole knew level …
When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
When I was maybe 7 or 8? I used to go to the woods (we lived by a lot of woods out west) and would plug my headphones into my red and amazing “my first Sony” walkman and would pretend to be a conductor. Little twig for a baton, I would stand on this one stump over a ravine and would boldly conduct my invisible orchestra. And hope the neighbor boy wouldn’t see me … I wanted so badly to play music, I even used to take this old trumpet we had with me on little adventures … I couldn’t play it but I tried so hard! I’m sure the neighbors LOVED that game … oye.
Name one artist or band that you think is overrated.
Aw, I can’t be a hater, to each his/her own.
Who played at the first concert you went to?
Oh god, I think the first big concert I went to was Jewel or something, someone had an extra ticket so I went. It must have been at the peak of her career, when was that? mid 90’s??
If you had to break-dance fight someone, who would it be?
That singing granny from The Wedding Singer.
What is the first album you purchased?
Ha, it was actually a compilation of songs from cartoons in the 70’s I think … called “Saturday Morning” or something. I still have it.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Anyone - any talented, excited and creative person out there.
What is your favorite four legged creature?
Squirrels.
Tell us about a band you are digging right now.
Lately, it’s been Sea of Bees, These United States, Youth Lagon and always Zoe Keating.
What is one movie you will watch any time it is on?
Titanic.
Who is your musical idol?
The Muppets.
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Tom-boy.
What was your favorite childhood cartoon?
Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck.
What is in your tour survival pack?
Whiskey, earplugs, music and books.
If you could join a caravan going anywhere, where would it be headed?
Space.
